Hi James,

It is still in the appeal process. I had a phone conversation with the appeals officer around 2 months ago, and have not heard anything since. I will update here once I get any information.

Comment on I Tracked My Amazon Return for 3,000 Miles and Bought It Back by mayne thiele https://www.ecomcrew.com/what-really-happens-to-amazon-returns/#comment-90095 Thu, 09 May 2024 15:45:30 +0000 https://www.ecomcrew.com/?p=53482#comment-90095 thanks for the great read Dave! I’d love to see this replicated 10 more times with different product types and locations, also in the US. i’m skeptical still that amazon doesn’t toss stuff in the trash or resell as new.

I like the part about you buying your bag from the liquidator. Of course we all know it’s flawed given the amount of used products that wind up back in customers’ hands. You should run another test where you keep the packaging new but defecate inside of it, and mark the return reason as “arrived too late.” Then you can monitor your waste as it’s delivered to another customer.

Comment on How Chinese Sellers are Manipulating Amazon in 2024 by K A https://www.ecomcrew.com/chinese-sellers-manipulating-amazon/#comment-84222 Sat, 27 Apr 2024 02:54:15 +0000 /?p=12457#comment-84222 I am really surprised you did not make any mention of the ruthless Black Hat strategy the Chinese use to take down sellers by filing a false DCMA notice. This happened to us recently. The competitor cut and pasted our product description into a rogue product listing (for a completely UNRELATED Product entirely). From what we can tell, the entire account for this unrelated product listing, was hacked or is not theirs. Then the competitor opened a DCMA case saying we copied their product verbiage. Further, there was no trademark or copyright number included in the DCMA filing. It’s impossible to get any support once you are in the mandadory waiting period for DCMA reviews. It’s super-frustrating, and I work at Amazon!

Comment on E542: How to Avoid Amazon’s Newest Inventory Fees by Dave Bryant https://www.ecomcrew.com/e542-amazon-new-inventory-fees/#comment-81585 Wed, 17 Apr 2024 04:19:29 +0000 https://www.ecomcrew.com/?p=57081#comment-81585 In reply to Sophie.

Hi Sophie,

Thanks for the comment – I do think these new placement fees have been a tipping point for a lot of people. It’s hard when Amazon ‘owns the telephone poles’ so to speak but I do think people are going to be investing more in other platforms going forward.

Comment on Amazon Sellers Paying 30% More in Fees Since 2021 – Q4 Earnings Report by Dave Bryant https://www.ecomcrew.com/amazon-q4-2023-earnings-impact-on-sellers/#comment-81584 Wed, 17 Apr 2024 04:17:26 +0000 https://www.ecomcrew.com/?p=55650#comment-81584 In reply to Scott Granowski.

Thanks for helping add more definition to the line items. This will be adjusted for Q1 earnings in 2024.

With that being said, I’ll have to let it marinate for a bit, but let’s say 1p sales are $76,703 and 3p sales are roughly $69,504. Many 1p sellers don’t pay advertising costs (some do, but a good chunk/most? do not) but rather have a ‘co-op’ fee deducted. If this co-op fee is not showing in ‘advertising costs’ then advertising as a percentage of 3p revenue could actually be higher as a percentage.

Regardless, the estimates are far from perfect given the lack of transparency for many of the line items and comments like this are extremely useful.

I’ve been pretty involved in the issue, meeting with MLAs and the tax policy team multiple times. Feel free to email me to dave at ecomcrew.com though.
